Ruth Gruber Used Her Camera and Typewriter to Fight for Refugees

Ruth Gruber, a writer and photographer, was in her early 30s when she accompanied nearly 1,000 World War II refugees traveling by ship from Italy to a camp in New York state. She discovered her mission “to fight injustice wherever I saw it.” Ms. Gruber died Nov. 17 at 105.
